ABOUT

WYLD

WYLD Philosophy

WYLD is part of the                             family and is adventure-based programming designed to aid participants in

developing self-confidence and stress management skills, with a focus on community dynamics.

With WYLD, participants share time in the great outdoors, exploring different environments and activities that provide opportunities for experiential learning. Through cultivating healthy peer relationships and trying new physical activities, WYLD facilitators invite participants to explore the edges of their comfort zones and move into their growth zones!

All participants begin the WYLD experience with the Community and Team-Building model, which is an immersion into the adventure group process and exploration of Adventure Basics. Participants learn to understand their own leadership styles, how teams work, and how a group can perform most effectively.

In the spirit of experiential learning, WYLD includes participation in activities such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, wilderness survival skill-building, and practicing mindfulness.

The WYLD model focuses on training young people to serve as leaders in both the facilitation and processing of activities and dialogue with their peers, younger children and adults. The next step is for students to use their new found skills to empower their peers to lead and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
